Our Academic Mission

Science class

Serra sees itself not merely as a high school, but a learning community. We are dedicated to improving and encouraging the academic achievement, career development, personal and social development and leisure-time pursuits of our students.

We offer all students the opportunity to develop the necessary skills, knowledge and attitudes to promote their present and future success. We accomplish this multifaceted task through promulgating effective teaching strategies, employing up-to-date technologies, and offering the students opportunities to be active and involved learners and to develop caring and trusting relationships with adults. Our commitment is to graduate students who become lifelong learners and productive members of a global society.

Serra's student body is culturally diverse. About one-third of our students are Hispanic and another one-third are white. Approximately 17 percent are African American. Also represented in our population are Indochinese, Filipino, Asian, Pacific Islander and Native American students.

Our instructional program follows District guidelines and offers many paths for students to meet their goals of graduating from Serra and preparing for post-secondary pursuits. We offer a spectrum of academic, technical, career, arts and sports classes. The focus is on meeting standards in each subject area.

Serra plays an integral role in the community and serves as a center of activity. Our school's foundation provides comprehensive support in both academics and athletics.
